Preparing for Change: The Medicare Modernization Act
Beginning in January 2006, the MMA will require Quality Improvement Organizations to implement programs for monitoring outpatient prescription drug utilization in order to assess measures for improving the cost and quality of patient care. In addition, the MMA may also require Prescription Drug Plans to perform quality improvement initiatives, in partnership with the QIOs, to ensure safe and cost-effective medication management.
